Ton Boudewijn: his language of paintingTon Boudewijn is an artist with a long career; classic guitar player, sculptor and painter, he invades his canvases with the motion and the strength of each one of his inspirations. His artworks, painted on big canvas, are of strong effect with his brushstrokes being blunt and the texture more defined. Ton’s painting is abstract, expressionist, active, musical; so fluent to seem overflowing the canvas. The colours contrast and stimulate each other shaping a monochromatism looking like a varied palette. In his artworks all elements coexist pleasantly with no hierarchy. Every mark, every gesture, is important; the deepness of his compositions is not due to geometry, but to the physicality of all strata that every image consist of. It is not necessary to establish an aesthetic system to achieve certain results. That simply comes from his mind. It is a process where he broaches an intense discussion with his materials, with his colours and texture. Although his language is abstract, Ton sometimes plays with figuration hiding it and showing it on different plans and perspectives where the public immerse itself in its fresh poetry. For him art means knowing when a painting is finished. It is all about understanding the exact moment when the artwork reaches its own perfection. Rose Marie Bellemur (art critic)
